Wholesome Horsemanship

Wholesome Horsemanship

Wholesome Horsemanship is an equine assisted learning program that uses both EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) and Horsemanship to give participants a comprehensive view into building a relationship with a horse. Skills transferable to all aspects of life.

This program is particularly suited to those who do not want traditional riding lessons but rather an understanding of their own needs, the horses needs, and a path to partnership with the horse.

The majority of this program will have students engaging in ground work activities with the horse while learning about the parts of the horse, the horses’ needs, and the students own feelings and needs in relation to the horse.

The student will learn about grooming and feeding the horse. They will learn about a horse’s environmental needs and reflect on their own environmental needs.

The student will learn about horse behaviour and the many reasons that horses might display behaviour, none of which is the horse just being “bad”.  This can result in the student understanding about the behaviour of other people, their own behaviour or the behaviour of their children.

The student will learn how to safely be in a horse’s space, how to lead a horse, lead forward, turn and stop.  The student will lead a horse over, around and through obstacles, and will learn to identify fear in the horse and how to help the horse through that fear. They will learn how to help the horse build confidence and therefore for the student as well.

The student will learn about riding equipment, proper tacking, the importance of saddle fit and comfort for the horse, and for the student.

The student may choose to ride the horse once the instructor feels they are ready for this step.  The purpose of the ride at this point is to experience the partnership they have built from the ground, in the saddle.  This would normally happen at the 7th session or beyond.

If after experiencing the partnership through riding the student would like to continue their riding experience they are welcome to continue with Bev to hone their riding skills.

Bev is a certified riding coach and teaches an enjoyable, peaceful, riding style that connects student with horse and nature.

Wholesome Horsemanship begins with 4 sessions that are about 45 – 90 minutes long.

Participants must have mobility and be able to move with the horse to maintain safety for both them and the horse.

Participants must have a sense of their own safety.

Participants must be able to follow direction from an adult.

$110 + HST per session
